    6 Times To Avoid Windscreen Repairs And Go For Replacement

    Windscreen Repair Melbourne

    ==========================================================================

    Imagine driving your car without a windscreen. It’s not only dangerous but also tiring when travelling long distances or in traffic. It also compromises visibility, structural integrity and even the opening of airbags. Every car owner knows the importance of having a windscreen and how it protects them while driving.

    It’s the reason when a single crack or chip appears on the windscreen, it’s essential to repair to protect the integrity of the structure.

    However, you should know that not all chips and cracks are repaired. Sometimes, it’s better to replace the whole screen. So, how can you decide when to visit car windscreen repairs in Melbourne? This blog will clarify:

    1. If the length of the cracks is longer than a credit card

    Look at the cracks on your windscreen. If they are longer than the length of credit card, then it’s beyond repair. If you continue driving with the longer cracks, then they will crack even more due to wind pressure leading to breakage of windscreen. It’s dangerous and it can be fatal if you are driving with high speed. Professionals recommend that you replace the screen when the chips are longer.

    1. If the damage is in the driver’s line of sight

    You cannot drive properly if the screen in front of you has so many cracks. When there are multiple cracks, it can affect your vision while driving, which sometimes may lead to dire consequences. In such cases, it’s better to replace the whole screen. It can make your drive smooth, especially at night. Or it’s better if you know how to stop a windscreen crack from spreading to limit the number of cracks on your screen. It can buy you some time before you go for replacement.

    1. If there are multiple chips or cracks

    If there are small chips or cracks, then it’s fine to repair; however, if there are several small cracks on the screen, it’s better to go for replacement. The more they are, the more likely the glass gets shattered. It can be due to a minor impact while driving, or it can break due to harsh weather conditions. So, it’s better to replace the screen when there are multiple cracks.

    1. If there are edge cracks or damage

    The edges of the screen should be safe and intact. If they are not, then the screen is more likely to get shattered. The edges should be well-bonded with the car frame, otherwise the damage can spread quickly. In this case, repairs are not the solution, but replacement is.

    1. If there is internal damage

    Always observe the outer and inner sides of the windscreen. Sometimes, the damage is not just on the surface but it can also go inside the glass. Or if you observe cloudiness or bubbling inside the glass, then understand the cracks or chips have gone to the deeper layers. You have to fix this internal damage not by repairing but by standard replacement methods.

    1. If the previous repair work is poor

    Maybe it’s not the first time you are repairing the glass. The previous glass repair is not perfect, and you find yourself seeing more and more. Then it’s not safe to drive with such a windscreen. You have to ensure to replace the whole screen by visiting a professional windscreen repair shop near your area. You can get good guidance along with affordable paying options.

    Final Thoughts

    You have to always check whether your car is in perfect condition or not. If not, you have to check where the fault is and immediately rectify it. In this case, you will now understand when to go for replacement rather than repair so that you don’t waste money by doing both.
