Can You Visit The Tesla Factory

Are you a person who loves to dive deep into behind the scenes of car manufacturing? Do you love to see things that are hidden behind? If your answer is ‘yes’ then the Tesla factory tour is perfect for you.

The major question that arises is whether Tesla allows visitors into their factory. In this guide, I’ll provide answers to all your questions and will shed light on the procedure for factory tour reservations.

The Tesla Gigafactory Tour – What Does It Offer?

Tesla has numerous gigafactory locations around the world including those in Austin Texas, Freemont California, Nevada, Berlin Germany, and as well as one in Shanghai, China.

The Tesla factory is an astonishing facility that allows visitors to experience a unique experience. Tesla’s Gigafactories house modern technology and amazing architectural monuments.

The Tesla factories focus on using eco-friendly energy sourced from sun and wind for their operations. The factory focuses on minimizing waste, setting a model example for environmentally friendly manufacturing.

    Tesla Gigafactory

One of the most distinct features of the Tesla factory is the use of robots. There are more than 1,000 robots in the factory which perform multiple production tasks.

In some Gigafactories, you will be allowed to enjoy a walking tour while in others you won’t be. Instead, they will drive you around the factory on a tram with a tour guide.

Who Can Enjoy A Tesla Factory Tour?

You may have heard different answers to the question of who can visit a Tesla factory. I’m sure that listening to too many different opinions has left you confused about what the truth is. Allow me to provide you with the answer to your question!

A simple answer to your question is “Yes, you can visit a Tesla factory but only under certain conditions.”

Tesla offers free factory tours but only for Tesla owners. Parties are allowed to bring along three other partners who may or may not own a Tesla. Each tour lasts for about 1 hour and is available from Monday to Friday at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and 5 pm. Weekends and major holidays are not available for these tours and you can only book one tour per year.

However, getting permission to visit a Tesla factory is not as simple as it seems. You’ll first need to request a tour by emailing Tesla. Wait for them to respond and then proceed to make your factory tour reservation. Once you get a confirmation mail, you’re all set for the visit.

Note: Take a look at the video below to learn how to make a reservation for a Tesla factory tour.

    Tesla Factory Tour Requirements

The requirements for the factory tour may vary according to the location you are going to visit. Regardless of the variations, the basic requirements remain the same and are:

    • You must be at least 18 years old to be allowed to visit the factory or register for a tour.
    • You must bring your Photo ID and visitor NDA for the tour.
    • Certain dress codes need to be followed. Long pants, sleeved shirts, or tees along with flats and close-toe shoes are suggested. Heels, sandals, and ballet flats are strictly prohibited.
    • Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the factory premises. Falling to abide by this can lead to legal action and tour cancellation.

Where Are The Tesla Factories Located?

The 6 major Tesla factories worldwide include:

    1. Freemont, California:

The Freemont factory in 2010, became the very first Tesla factory to be opened. Tesla’s Freemont facility is reported to have employed around 17,000 people.

This facility is not necessarily termed as a Gigafactory but is still one of the largest Tesla factories.

    2. Nevada Gigafactory:

This Tesla Gigafactory was established in 2016, growing into a major manufacturing facility for the company’s electric motors, batteries, and powertrains.

    3. Buffalo, New York Gigafactory:

This Gigafactory was set up in 2017 and is the major site for the production of solar roof tiles and panels, and superchargers.

    4. Shanghai, China Gigafactory:

The Shanghai Gigafactory was established in 2019, becoming Tesla’s first international factory. This plant is the production site for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

    5. Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany Gigafactory:

This facility opened up in March 2022 and is one of the most advanced Tesla factories. This plant currently produces the Tesla Model Y.

    6. Austin, Texas Gigafactory:

The Texas facility opened up in April 2022. This facility produces Tesla’s Model Y, Cybertruck, and semi-vehicles.
